About This Event
Potential Impacts Of Climate Change On Kidney Disease, Mental Health & Underserved Populations
Background:
Climate change is a long-term shift in temperature and weather patterns and though a natural occurrence, for the last 200 years, human activity has been the primary driver of global warming.1 The extreme weather, heat exposure and air pollution can increase morbidity and mortality for patients with chronic medical conditions, including kidney disease.2 Climate change has also been linked to worsening mental health resulting from environmental disasters that lead to forced migration. Underserved patients are especially affected, including communities of color, low-income communities, children, and older adults.3
