Plant-Based Diets For The Management Of Hypertension In Chronic Kidney Disease

This webinar will feature Shivam Joshi, MD, an internist, nephrologist, and plant-based physician who will be joined by Dr Laura Frank, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Nephrology Medical Science Liaison, to discuss the interrelationships between hypertension and chronic kidney disease, as well as the role of plant-based diets in the management of these co-related conditions.

Shivam Joshi, MD, is an internist, nephrologist, and plant-based physician practicing at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue in New York City. He received his BS from Duke University and his MD from the University of Miami. He completed his residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami and his nephrology fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He is also a clinical assistant professor at the New York University School of Medicine with research interests in plant-based diets, fad diets, and nephrology. He has written numerous scientific articles and speaks nationally on these subjects. He is the youngest nephrologist to receive the NKF’s Joel D Kopple award, the highest award in renal nutrition. Laura Frank

Laura Frank, PhD, MPH, RDN, CD

Laura Frank is a Medical Science Liaison (MSL) working in the nephrology space for Otsuka Pharmaceutical Development and Commercialization (OPDC). Dr Frank holds a PhD in exercise physiology, a MPH in epidemiology, a M.Ed in Nutrition & Dietetics, a BS in molecular biology and is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). She brings a clinical background to the field through her experiences as an acute-care clinical dietitian working with patients with renal diseases and related conditions. She also has a strong academic background with over 12 years of teaching experience and over 6 years of postdoctoral research. She has held several leadership positions such as director of clinical sites for Washington State University’s graduate program in Nutrition & Exercise Physiology and program manager for several projects and grants associated with healthcare organizations. She also has an interest in and holds a professional certificate in Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR), with experience in projects related to quality measures.
