About This Event
Mental Health Implications In IgA Nephropathy
Background
Immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN) is a rare, progressive autoimmune kidney disease that leads to chronic inflammation in the kidney. IgAN, a subtype of glomerulonephritis (GN), is induced by the accumulation of IgA-containing immune complexes in the kidney glomeruli that initiate a cascade of inflammatory events, eventually causing irreversible glomerulosclerosis that leads, in many patients, to end stage renal disease (ESRD), reduced quality of life (QoL), a need for dialysis or transplantation, and risk of premature death.1 Those of adolescent age at the time of kidney disease diagnosis showed the highest rate of psychiatric disorders: 33.4 cases per 1,000 person-years compared with other age-groups (children 13.3 and adults 13.2 cases per 1,000 person-years).2
Did You Know?
- IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is the most common glomerulonephritis worldwide, with an incidence of 2.5 per 100,000 population per year.3
- The 10-year risk of progression to end stage kidney disease (ESKD) or halving of eGFR is 26%3
- Psychiatric disorders were documented in approximately one-eighth of patients with glomerular disease and correlated with clinical disease characteristics such as age, race, proteinuria, and oral medication burden.2
Why Attend This Webinar?
- Join us for this webinar to learn more about mental health in IgAN and how it impacts patients, caregivers, healthcare providers, as well as related stressors.
What You Will Learn
- The importance of mental health as related to IgAN.
- The impact it has on healthcare providers, patients, and caregivers.
