Objectives
- Define anxiety and depression, and discuss prevalence among chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients
- Identify potential risk factors and mechanisms of both anxiety and depression in CKD
- Recognize overlapping symptomatology, and examine the cycle among anxiety, depression, and CKD and associated poor outcomes
- Address challenges in managing anxiety and depression in patients with CKD

Max Hyams, PharmD, RPh, is a Nephrology Medical Science Liaison at Otsuka Pharmaceutical Development & Commercialization (OPDC) covering New Jersey. He earned his Doctorate of Pharmacy from Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Albany, New York. Prior to joining Otsuka, he was a Global Pharmacovigilance Case Processor in Specialty Medicine at Bayer, working closely with colleagues in Brazil and Germany. Prior to that, he was a Pharmacy Manager for CVS, working in the highest volume, 24-hour stores in Northern New Jersey, and has experience working for an independent pharmacy specializing in fertility medications. He is currently licensed as a pharmacist in New Jersey and resides in Hoboken, New Jersey.
Yasmin Togun, PhD
Medical Science LiaisonDr. Yasmin Togun is a CNS Medical Science Liaison at Otsuka, covering Connecticut, Massachusetts. Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. She is a LicensedPsychologist with a focus on Pediatric Psychology and Health Service Psychology. Prior to joining Otsuka, she practiced as an Attending Psychologist on the Psychiatry Consultation Liaison Service at Boston Children’s Hospital and a Clinical Instructor of Psychology at Harvard Medical School.
