Major Depressive Disorder affects more than 260 million people worldwide1. The reported prevalence of depression in patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) ranges from 20-65%2. This presentation provides an overview of both MDD and CKD and discusses their overlap of symptomology.

Marla Dallal, PharmD, RPH is a Medical Science Liaison at Otsuka Pharmaceutical Development and Commercialization covering Southern California. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Southern California, School of Pharmacy in Los Angeles. While in pharmacy school, Dr Dallal pursued various clinical internships within the acute care and ambulatory care settings at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and Kaiser Permanente. Prior to joining Otsuka, Dr Dallal held various positions within Medical Affairs at Amgen Inc covering the cardiometabolic and nephrology therapeutic areas. She also served as a preceptor at Amgen Inc, where she instructed pharmacy students on Advanced Pharmacy Practice rotations. She is currently licensed as a pharmacist in the state of California with the National Association Board of Pharmacy.

Dr Rebecca S. Ahdoot is a board-certified UCI Health nephrologist and director of the PKD Partner Clinic at UCI. She specializes in the management of acute and chronic kidney disease, hypertension/high blood pressure, kidney stones, electrolyte abnormalities and dialysis.

She earned her medical degree at the UCI School of Medicine and completed an internal medicine residency at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center. She completed a joint neurology fellowship with Kaiser Permanente and Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles. She also completed the UCLA Kennamer/Kaiser Permanente Community Medicine Fellowship program, which focuses on healthcare policy, patient advocacy and primary care. Dr Ahdoot is passionate about community service and outreach. She founded a bi-annual health fair to address the lack of affordable, timely vision and hearing services for low-income patients. She also has participated in volunteer medical missions to Guatemala through HELPS International.

Costa received her Doctor of Philosophy from William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Brandman University in Irvine, California.
