Factors Influencing Drug Dialyzability

Background

Deciding when to administer a medication around chronic dialysis can be a complex process in the clinical setting. Dr George Bailie and Dr Nancy Mason will present information about the medication-related and dialysis-related factors that influence medication removal by hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. They will review medication information resources on this topic, and also present an approach to administration of medications when dialyzability data are limited.

Why View This Webinar?

  • In this webinar, the speakers will review medication information resources and present an approach to administration of medications when dialyzability data are limited in the hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis populations.
What You Will Learn
  • Drug-related and dialysis-related factors that influence drug dialyzability
  • How drug removal by high-flux hemodialysis can be different from that by low-flux hemodialysis
  • The effects of ratios of systemic volume of distribution to dialysate volume in various peritoneal dialysis regimens on drug clearance
  • How to use drug information resources to find dialysis dosing recommendations or pharmacokinetic drug data
  • How to use a step-wise approach to determine the appropriate drug dosing time around dialysis
