About This Event
Current Understanding Of IgA Nephropathy (IgAN)
Background
IgA Nephropathy (IgAN) is an autoimmune disease characterized by the production of abnormal IgA, an immune response, and deposits of IgA-containing immune complexes in glomeruli causing damage1. Which left unaddressed, the relentless damage to glomeruli can lead to kidney failure and the need for renal replacement therapy, such as transplant or dialysis2. The current model of pathogenicity involves four hits that drive the disease development and progression2.
