Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is defined as abnormalities of kidney structure or function, present for more than three months, with adverse health outcomes. Patients with CKD often have related comorbid conditions such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and peripheral vascular disease that can lead to higher rates of morbidity and mortality.
